Don’t really know in what category I can fit this post. It’s about different workplaces – not all jobs match your expectations, as I found out in the last years. It depends on your own style, social status and moods. And of course, there is no real saying how the workplace is just from being at a big corporation, small company or in entrepreneurship. Without a clear order, here are the most important aspects:
Born or taught to be entrepreneur?
I’m reading (or at least I’m trying to read) a Russian classical book. I’ve started it some 6 months ago, and I’m still at the first chapter. Just to make a comment on this aspect, you should do all your reading while you are not an entrepreneur, because you won’t have any time left after becoming one.
Entrepreneurship: too much to know, feel and do
I think that an entrepreneur is a person that primarily receives more inputs, signals and feedback from the environment than a regular person. I remember that before going to this entrepreneurship path, I was spending most of the time used for traveling to work and back by listening to the music or simply day dreaming. This is not really efficient if you spent a little more than 1 hour in the car day by day.
Being an entrepreneur has changed this aspect as well. The 35 minutes spent when going at work are the best moment in the day to plan the day tasks and activities.
A new store on the street? Your brain starts ticking – maybe a new business idea, maybe a new potential customer. I feel thing differently.
People are not just people, they are customers, suppliers and competition. To what business? To whatever I would like to do now, or in future.
Cars are not just cars. Some are advertising company names. Expensive cars? Probably they are doing good. New cars? Probably they renewed they car fleet – somebody got some good sales this month.
Crowded streets? Probably business is thriving in that area, rent is more expensive, new fast foods should appear shortly.
Too much to know, feel and do for a 35 minutes ride to work. That’s entrepreneurship!
Best entrepreneurial age – I would say late 20’s
Is there a perfect moment to become entrepreneur?
I bet there are enough examples out there to prove that there isn’t a special period in life to become entrepreneur. However after analyzing the life of my relatives and myself I came to the conclusion that there might be some real life implications when deciding to take your life in your hands and become a self sustained entity. As I wrote in one of my previous posts, there are huge implications to consider when becoming an entrepreneurship in terms of time resources, social life and the self esteem. In that case what would be a good moment to become entrepreneur? I would say late 20’s. Lets put it this way:
Entrepreneur lifestyle – can you handle it?
Entrepreneurs – you just met the worse employer you could have – YOU
So you are thinking into getting your own business and have a relaxed work day and a full package of benefits? Hahahh! You just found your worse employer so far – your business. Let me tell you how your life will be. Your working day will increase suddenly from 9 to 17 to 9 – 21 in the best case. Every time leaving the office you will have the feeling that you could do more by just a little more overtime. Vacation? What’s that word? Being happier? Well at least not in the starting years. Every success you will have will ask for more, and while you start to have more, nothing is enough. Relaxation? Not if you need to pay the bills, or even worse if you have some staff hired.
